Trump has done a lot of controversial things during his time in office, but he is really taking heat for cutting aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s Chief of Staff, stated, “…if we’re going to give these countries hundreds of millions of dollars, we would like them to do more. That’s not an unreasonable position.”
Do Your Part
To be clear, this administration is not exactly asking these countries for anything out of the norm.
As Mulvaney stated, though, all of these countries, and we can include Mexico in that conversation, should be doing more to help control the flow of immigration into this country.
Instead of stopping these massive caravans, though, they are actually encouraging and helping these migrants.
Democrats, of course, don’t see it that way, though, and they have been throwing considerable shade on this administration ever since Trump made the announcement.
All That Money…
While Mulvaney was telling CNN’s Jake Tapper why he supported this measure, Tapper interrupted him to say doing this would ultimately make things even worse for the people of these countries.
Mulvaney had the perfect response…
“If it’s working so well, why are the people still coming?
“Why are these historic numbers?
“Again, 100,000 people will cross the border this month alone.
“That is a crisis, it’s a humanitarian crisis, it’s a security crisis.
“The proof is in the numbers, it’s not working well enough to help solve our border problems and that’s what the president’s focused on.”
Mulvaney knocked it out of the park on that point.
If we are giving these countries all that money, what are we getting in return?
The United States is simply asking for help to manage their own people, and they cannot even do that.
Until that happens and until we get this immigration problem under control, not a single penny of our tax dollars should go to support any these countries.
If you want our money, we have to get something in return. It’s that simple.
