Fighting the Establishment
When Rep. Ocasio-Cortez was asked about Joe Biden, she could not offer her support to his candidacy.
The establishment was shocked she openly went against a member of the Democrat elite, but she did not back down.
As far as AOC is concerned, electing Biden is like taking a step back, something she does not want the party to do.
As such, it was no surprise to see Justice Democrats come out against Biden on the same day he announced.
AOC and Justice Democrats
Until very recently, AOC was listed as a board member of Justice Democrats.
Her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, was also listed as a board member.
Only after media attention brought this to light were both of them de-listed by the PAC on its website.
That, of course, does not necessarily mean AOC is not the one pulling the strings.
Justice Democrats is one of the major reasons AOC managed to pull her upset win, defeating former Rep. Joe Crowley in the last election.
Both AOC and Chakrabarti have been accused of illegally funneling money to private LLCs from the PAC, although they both claim they did nothing wrong.
This is surely the first of many shots Justice Democrats will be lobbing at Joe Biden, who failingly ran for president twice before.
All early signs point to AOC throwing her support behind Bernie Sanders, so we will have to keep a watchful eye on where the Justice Democrats money lands during this election to see if AOC is trying to extend her reach out of New York and into the presidential election.
Even that, though, would seem to be against what the organization supports.
With a hashtag of #OurTime, it would seem the PAC would be hoping one of the younger Democrats with a far-left agenda will somehow make it into the top candidates.
Beto O’Rourke fits that description, but the Texas Democrat is wrapped up in a bunch of scandals of his own.
Bernie may be there only hope to get a true socialist agenda into the White House, so #OurTime may have to be put off just a bit longer.
