Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Tied to Dark Money, Possible Campaign Finance Violations

The one Democrat making the most noise about dark money may have actually been running her own dark money PAC.

A new report stated both Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her chief of staff were a part of the Justice Democrats PAC.

If this is true, it is a major campaign finance violation that could result in jail time for both of them.

Justice Democrats

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s victory was considered one of the largest upsets in the race.

There was big money behind her, with a significant portion of that coming from Justice Democrats.

The PAC was also given most of the credit for orchestrating the campaign that enabled Ocasio-Cortez to win her seat.

The problem, though, is that both Ocasio-Cortez and Saikat Chakrabarti, her chief of staff, had legal authority over the PAC.

PACs are not permitted to coordinate with candidates in any way, so this would put AOC in quite a pickle.

Stealing from the Campaign?

AOC’s problems do not end there, though.

The National Legal Policy Center (NLPC) filed a case last week making money laundering or outright theft accusations against AOCs campaign.

In their filing with the FEC, NLPC alleges that two PACs controlled by Chakrabarti funneled $1 million to private companies being controlled by him during the 2018 elections.

Several experts have stated this is more than enough information to launch an investigation into the matter.

The allegations against AOC are bad enough, but if this is all found to be true, it is going to cripple the Democrat party, as AOC has become both the face and backbone of the party.

It would also be rather ironic to have the congresswoman bringing attention to dark money actually running her own PAC.
