Appeals Court Awards Trump Major Victory Against Sanctuary Cities

The Trump administration won a huge victory in federal court on Wednesday.

The Second Circuit Appeals court announced the administration can withhold funding from sanctuary cities and states.

Massive Win

This particular policy goes back to a time when Jeff Sessions was our Attorney General.

At the time, then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions stated, “So-called ‘sanctuary’ policies make all of us less safe because they intentionally undermine our laws and protect illegal aliens who have committed crimes.

“These policies also encourage illegal immigration and even human trafficking by perpetuating the lie that in certain cities, illegal aliens can live outside the law.”

“From now on, the Department will only provide Byrne JAG grants to cities and states that comply with federal law, allow federal immigration access to detention facilities, and provide 48 hours notice before they release an illegal alien wanted by federal authorities.

“This is consistent with long-established cooperative principles among law enforcement agencies.”

When the policy was first announced, it created outrage on the left.

The policy was immediately challenged and has been held up in the courts ever since.

The appellate court ruling, however, now means the Trump administration can withhold federal funding from any cities and/or states that are harboring illegal immigrants from the proper authorities.

Judge Reena Raggi wrote the majority opinion, stating, “Repeatedly and throughout its pronouncement of Byrne Program statutory requirements, Congress makes clear that a grant applicant demonstrates qualification by satisfying statutory requirements in such form and according to such rules as the Attorney General establishes.

“This confers considerable authority on the Attorney General.”

Stop Protecting Criminals

Why Democrats have taken to protecting illegal immigrants has always baffled me.

They could care less about the poor man that steals groceries to feed his family, yet they want to allow illegals blanket immunity in this country.

There is a process, and it must be followed, or we simply do not have a country.

If your city or state is going to serve as a safe space for these people, you should not be entitled to federal funds paid for taxpayer money… it’s that simple.

I have maintained for years that our judiciary is politically charged and in this case, that paid off.

Had this fallen before a liberal-dominated panel, the decision to block this policy in the lower courts would have been upheld, literally legalizing an illegal activity.

Biased or not, the Second Circuit Appellate Court got this one right.
