That sound you just heard was the collective shiver going down the spines of every Democrat in office and of course, James Comey.
Late Monday night, numerous outlets have reported Attorney General William Barr has appointed Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham to investigate the origins of the Russia probe launched against Donald Trump.
Big Reputation
Durham is known as a no-nonsense kind of guy.
There will be no political agenda in this investigation, just the facts, period.
According to reports, Durham has been tasked with looking into the period prior to election day that led to the probe being launched.
This will include the informants used by the FBI as well as the alleged abuses to obtain FISA warrants.
Barr has asked Durham to “ensure that intelligence collection activities by the U.S. Government related to the Trump 2016 Presidential Campaign were lawful and appropriate.”
This will be a collaborative effort that will work in conjunction with at least two other investigations currently underway involving the probe.
Those investigations are believed to be a joint effort between Barr and FBI Director Wray as a well as an Inspector General’s investigation.
Needless to say, Trump was elated with this announcement.
The President stated, “I think it’s a great thing that he did it.
“I am so proud of our attorney general that he’s looking into it.”
What Does It Mean?
This will likely be the biggest investigation in the modern political era.
There have been so many accusations with terms like “coup” and “deep state” being thrown around these days that will either be justified or completely trashed.
If the investigation does turn up something hokey, it very well may expose one of the biggest internal efforts by an outgoing administration to threaten the presidency of its successor.
If, on the other hand, it turns up nothing, it is going to give Democrats and James Comey plenty of fodder to attack Trump leading into the 2020 presidential election.
Either way, one side is going to be sent reeling from this report and the outcome will more than likely determine the winner of the next election.
If Durham and the IG find wrongdoing, it will surely give the Trump administration a major boost and validate the frustration many conservatives have felt over the last two-plus years.
If they find everything was on the up and up, it will be a crushing blow to Trump and more than likely send him packing after the 2020 election.
From the facts we have so far, though, this does not look good for the Democrats or Comey.
Get ready patriots, because the lid is about to be blown off what may become the biggest political scandal this country has ever seen.
