Attorney General Barr has revealed the first details of the Mueller report.
Trump was clearly exonerated on the issue of collusion, with the report stating, “The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”
Trump administration officials were in good spirits on Friday, so there is little doubt everyone will be celebrating tonight after the summary of the initial parts of the report was released by AG Barr.
Mueller’s wording made it clear, without a doubt, Trump and his campaign are innocent of all allegations made about collusion.
This is not going to be very good for the likes of Rep. Schiff, who has continued to push the narrative that Trump was guilty of collusion for the better part of the last two years.
The findings in the report should call for an immediate halt to any investigations the House is currently conducting on President Trump in this regard.
On the issue of obstruction, Mueller was not quite so clear.
On obstruction, Barr stated, “While the report does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”
This is fairly significant, as it will continue to give Democrats a thread to pull on in their continued effort to go after Trump.
This, along with some investigations handed off to the Justice Department and the New York Attorney General, could still cause some legal problems for Trump.
One of the major obstacles Trump still has to clear is the Justice Department’s investigation into the hush payments Trump made during the election.
Cohen’s testimony has implicated Trump in possible campaign finance violations.
Additionally, contributions to Trump’s inaugural committee by foreign nationals are under investigation.
Even though these legal problems linger, the fact no collusion was found will give Trump more than enough ammunition to attack Democrats in the upcoming week.
Many prominent Democrats are going to be forced to eat a plate of crow, so it will be interesting to see how they spin themselves out of the corner they painted themselves into.
