Border Democrat Breaks with Party on Asylum Denial Deportations

Most Democrats are fighting to keep every illegal that comes across the border in this country, but most of them do not live in border states.

One Democrat that does, Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), is backing the Republican program for speedy deportations of those that have their asylum claims denied.

Needless to say, her fellow Democrats are not happy she is breaking the party line.

Send Them Back

The program being proposed by Republicans and the three Democrats is just common sense.

If the asylum claims are denied, send them back to alleviate pressure on detention facilities as well as the American taxpayer.

Sinema was one of three Democrats supporting the legislation in the Senate.

Joining her were two regular defectors from the Democrat party, Senator Joe Manchin (D-VA) and Senator Doug Jones (D-AL).

The new program, called Operation Safe Return, would be a pilot program to help the Department of Homeland Security quickly identify and process asylum claims with no merit.

The letter sent to the President regarding the new program stated, “Through this program, we expect that we can meet our commitments to humanitarian protections while ensuring proper efficiency, timeliness, order, and fairness in the credible fear screening process.

“We also expect that Operation Safe Return will help us examine current process deficiencies, identify required increases in capacity, and understand the drivers of migration.”

Defending her position, Senator Sinema stated, “This pilot program would apply to families who aren’t claiming ‘credible fear,’ which of course is the first threshold in seeking asylum.

“If someone says ‘I left my country because I can’t make a living,’ (or) ‘it’s hard to take care of my family’ — that’s what we call an economic migrant.”

Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), who was one of six Republicans who are also backing the pilot program, stated, “As sympathetic as I am toward anyone who yearns for the freedom and opportunity that America provides, it is not possible to properly accommodate all who do.

“Those who enter our country illegally without a valid asylum claim, put themselves and our society at risk.

“The goal of our policies should be to reduce the overwhelming flow of illegal migration and convert it to a controllable number of legal immigrants.

“Hopefully, Operation Safe Return will convince Central Americans, that on a bipartisan basis, America will do everything we can to prevent human traffickers from exploiting our laws and abusing immigrants seeking a better life.”

Not the First Time

This is not the first time Sinema has gone against her fellow party members on this issue.

In April, she sent out a very blunt tweet about her concerns over the problems of so many illegals entering her home state…

She, unlike most of her party members, is extremely realistic about how much this country can do for immigrants as well as what does and does not qualify as a legitimate claim for asylum.

Sadly, Sinema will be ripped to shreds by her own party members and be villainized for doing nothing more than looking out for the welfare of her state and her constituents, exactly what she was voted in office to do.
