Cory Booker Introduces Slavery Reparations Bill to Senate

The topic of reparations for descendants of slaves has been a very hot topic for Democrat presidential candidates.

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) has taken it a step further, though, actually introducing a bill to the Senate for reparations payments.

The Bill

Booker is clearly looking to get a leg up against his competitors with this legislation.

Reparations have suddenly become the “in-topic” for presidential candidates.

Each of them has more or less been forced to go along with it (not that they would not have anyway) for fear of being classified as a racist.

Booker can now officially say while others talked about, he actually did something about it.

He will soon also be able to call all Republicans racists when this bill crashes and dies on the Senate floor, but I am getting ahead of myself.

On Monday, Booker stated, “This bill is a way of addressing head-on the persistence of racism, white supremacy, and implicit racial bias in our country.

”It will bring together the best minds to study the issue and propose solutions that will finally begin to right the economic scales of past harms and make sure we are a country where all dignity and humanity is affirmed.”

This is coming from an African-American man that is an American Senator, running for president, and has a net worth somewhere between $600,000 and $1.3 million.

Now does that sound like a man that was oppressed or robbed of opportunity?

What Will It Solve?

If Booker is introducing reparations as a way to unify this country, he is sadly mistaken.

These reparations are estimated to cost trillions of dollars, which of course will come from U.S. taxpayer money.

The bulk of that money will be taxed on Americans whose families never owned slaves or in my case, where not even in the country when slavery existed.

I am a second-generation American whose grandfather came from Ireland owing a massive debt to a local business owner to pay for his passage.

My personal anger on this issue has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the fact myself and millions like me NEVER had anything to do with slavery.

Democrats act as though the America today is not a land of opportunity if people want it.

Did we not just have an African-American president?

Cory Booker himself is an example of what you can do if you put in the work.

Is this money suddenly supposed to end racism?

Quite the contrary, as it is only going to make it worse.

Paying off a family today for things that happened hundreds of years ago is nothing more than a winning lottery ticket for those that end up with a check in their hand.

Secondly, there will be significant animosity created over the fact our tax dollars are being used in a way that does not benefit all Americans.

We are not solving the opioid crisis. We are not addressing the health care situation. We are not helping the immigration problem. We are not helping our veterans. We are not making this country a safer place to live or stimulating the economy.

No, what we would be doing is giving Cory Booker a lock on a few million votes and that is about it.
