Cruz Slams NFL on Plan to Play ‘Black National Anthem’ Before Week 1 Games

Earlier this week, it was reported that the NFL would play the unofficial black national anthem, a song called Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing, before every Week 1 game.

Senator Ted Cruz did not take the insinuation that there is more than one anthem for this country very well and ripped the NFL for even insinuating as much.

NFL Caves

Before I get into this, I want to be very clear about something, as I have been getting some rather interesting emails lately.

In this country, I don’t think or want anyone to be afraid of the police.

Nor do I want to see anyone else treated differently simply because of the color of the skin, their religious beliefs, or any other circumstance you can think of.

I will not, however, support an organization, Black Lives Matter, that I believe is a sham.

I will also not buy into this overreaction to what happened to George Floyd.

This entire country was outraged by that video, but that does not mean every police officer is racist or does not act properly, nor does it mean we have a systemic racism issue.

Our sports world and many businesses, however, do not see it that way and many are overreacting to what has happened out of a fear of being labeled racist by BLM.

Not only has the commissioner stated that he wants Colin Kaepernick to lead the way for the new woke NFL, but he is now also offering up two anthems prior to Week 1 games, something that got quite a rise out of Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)…

I have only one question… what happens when someone kneels for the black anthem, because you know it is going to happen.

Will that person get ripped out of the stands and beat up? Will that person risk losing his or her season tickets for this action?

This is Going to be a Problem

I used to love watching NFL games, but that has been tapered as of late and even more so in recent weeks.

I am a season ticket holder for the Dallas Cowboys and have been a fan of the team since I was about eight years old.

Once the new anthem was announced, I put my entire season up for sale and it’s not because I am racist and it is not because I am against equal rights.

It is, however, because I don’t want social justice issues rammed down my throat during sporting events that I watch and go to in order to check out for a few hours and take a break from everything else.

The breaking point for me was the report that Goodell is considering having the names of alleged victims of police brutality on the backs of players.

It is has gotten to the point that some former players are even saying this is going too far, specifically in relation to having Black Lives Matter painted on basketball courts.

The death of George Floyd, had it been handled differently, was a great opportunity to bring this entire country together to fix a very real problem, but instead it has only served to create a bigger divide.

I just can’t help think that the divide is exactly what Democrats were hoping for.
