This weekend, the Trump campaign launched an ad regarding the COVID-19 virus and used a quote from Dr. Fauci.
Fauci immediately came out to condemn the ad, saying his words were taken out of context.
This is about as bad as it gets for Trump, even though the ad uses Fauci’s exact words.
Didn’t Give Permission
The words in the ad are uttered by Fauci and taken from a nationally televised interview.
Fauci was answering a question about his role and the administration as a whole responding to the pandemic.
It was not an endorsement for a candidate, just context regarding the administration’s response to the pandemic that is being attacked daily by Democrats.
In the ad, Fauci states, “I can’t imagine that anybody could be doing more.”
After the ad went live, Fauci stated, “In my nearly five decades of public service, I have never publicly endorsed any political candidate.
“The comments attributed to me without my permission in the GOP campaign ad were taken out of context from a broad statement I made months ago about the efforts of federal public health officials.”
The Trump campaign responded, “These are Dr. Fauci’s own words.
“The video is from a nationally broadcast television interview in which Dr. Fauci was praising the work of the Trump Administration.
“The words spoken are accurate, and directly from Dr. Fauci’s mouth.
“As Dr. Fauci recently testified in the Senate, President Trump took the virus seriously from the beginning, acted quickly, and saved lives.”
