Establishment Democrats Betray Rep. Ilhan Omar on Israel Resolution

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn) no doubt thought the recent rush to defend her against Trump’s tweets presented an opportunity, but she has never been more wrong.

After Omar introduced legislation to boycott Israel, several high-profile Democrats decried the resolution and declared it dead on arrival in the House.

BDS Resolution

Omar has had it in for Israel from day one.

That has been made pretty clear by her statements about Israel over the years, dating back to her time in Minnesota’s House.

The new legislation introduced by Omar was heavily in favor of the pro-Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The BDS movement is not looked upon kindly by most House members, especially those of Jewish descent.

Omar made matters worse by comparing Israel to Nazi Germany and the old Soviet Union.

Omar stated, “Americans of conscience have a proud history of participating in boycotts to advocate for human rights abroad including … boycotting Nazi Germany from March 1933 to October 1941 in response to the dehumanization of the Jewish people in the lead-up to the Holocaust.”

Democrat Pushback

The resolution met with immediate pushback by House members, including Lee Zeldin, who is no stranger to facing off against Omar…

Zeldin was not alone on the Democrat side.

Rep. Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.) stated, “I think the BDS movement is harmful, and anyone that promotes it is making a big mistake.”

Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FLA) stated the BDS movement “envisions a world with out Israel… I reject it!”

Omar’s resolution will do nothing to help her image as an anti-Semite and now she may have damned anyone supporting her resolution to the same fate.

Once again, the House cannot get out of its own way and continues to allow the radical new members of the party to bury it.
