Florida Governor Outrages Dems by Banning Sanctuary Cities

How about that, a politician that actually keeps his promises!

Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to sign legislation today that will prohibit sanctuary cities from being able to set up shop in the state of Florida.

SB 168

The bill is officially designated as SB 168.

The new legislation will force all local and state government agencies to honor existing immigration detainer requests with federal agencies.

They will also be required to cooperate in full with immigration authorities on all fronts.

All local governments throughout the state will also be barred from adopting any sanctuary city policies that would protect illegal immigrants from being deported.

Local authorities will now be required to inform federal agencies anytime anyone being held by local authorities that did have a retainer on them was about to be released.

Hot Debate

The legislation has kept the local House in action for most of this year.

The bill was revised and revised until it finally managed to pass through with votes of 22-18 and 68-45.

Obviously, most Democrats in the state are NOT on board with the new legislation, as the votes came down right along party lines.

DeSantis’s office was obviously pleased the state legislature finally came through to deliver something he promised during the campaign.

Helen Ferre, DeSantis’ spokeswoman, stated, “Earlier this year, Governor DeSantis asked the Florida Legislature to present him with meaningful legislation to uphold the rule of law and ensure that no city or county jurisdiction can get in the way of Florida’s cooperation with our federal partners to enforce immigration law.”

While the legislation was being debated, DeSantis stated all he was doing was trying to protect the people of his state from this growing problem in our country.

The Florida Governor stated, “We are a stronger state when we protect our residents, foster safe communities and respect the work of law enforcement at every level.”

Florida is now the 10th state in the country to pass this legislation, joining Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, North Carolina, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas.

While the legislation has been passed, we can once again expect it to be challenged in local courts by immigrant-rights organizations.

And, as we have seen time and time again, we know the courts these days are far more powerful than lawmakers, including the President himself.

We can only hope the case comes before a conservative judge that will actually respect the state’s constitution and protect the people of its own state over the flood of illegals and the liberals that want to protect them.
