It is not too often anyone associated with Barack Obama agrees with President Trump.
Former Homeland Security Secretary, Jeh Johnson, did just that though, agreeing that our country does, in fact, have a “crisis” at the southern border.
Mr. Johnson should know of which he speaks.
While serving under Obama, he had much the same problem at the border we are experiencing today.
However, even as bad as it was on Johnson’s watch, he thinks the situation today is far worse.
Johnson stated, “By anyone’s definition, by any measure, right now we have a crisis on our southern border.”
“According to the commissioner of [Customs and Border Protection], there were 4,000 apprehensions in one day alone this past week, and we’re on pace for 100,000 apprehensions on our southern border this month,” Johnson added.
Those numbers are staggering, and they are exactly why Trump is threatening to shut down the border altogether.
Worse Than Ever
Democrats are attempting to spread the narrative that Trump is making this border problem up to pacify his base.
Johnson, however, clearly disagrees.
In fact, Johnson stated the numbers we are seeing today are “by far a greater number than anything I saw on my watch in my three years as Secretary of Homeland Security.”
In February, more than 76,000 illegals were detained.
That number was the largest we have seen in more than a decade, and we are outpacing that this month.
To stop the flow of migrants, Trump has called on the leadership of Mexico to help.
If Mexico will not step up, Trump has threatened to completely close off the border, meaning trade will also be halted with Mexico.
For two years now, President Trump has tried to work something out with Democrats, but they refuse to budge.
This entire crisis could have been avoided had they just allowed Trump to move forward with his original plans.
Now, we have a national emergency on our hands, something the Democrats still continue to refuse to admit is real.
Hopefully, now that Mr. Johnson has broken ranks to reveal the truth, Democrats will start to see the light.
