Harris Flip-Flops on Forum After Pressuring Group to Drop Sponsor for Trump Award

The only word that I could say when I saw this story hit the newswire was “Wow.”

On Friday, Kamala Harris announced she was boycotting a scheduled appearance at Benedict College because Donald Trump was given an award by the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center for the criminal reforms that have been made during this administration.

Not Going to Attend

As was reported earlier, Harris was supposed to appear at a criminal justice forum at the school, but she decided to cancel based on the Trump award.

When she announced she was canceling her appearance, Trump blasted her on Twitter…

Harris was clearly under pressure from the African American community, but she did not want to appear to give in, so she decided to put some pressure on the school over the Trump award.

Revoking Sponsors

Harris’ office pressured the school to drop a major sponsor for the forum in order for her to attend.

That sponsor, obviously, was the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center.

The Harris campaign stated, “After Senator Kamala Harris stood up and objected to their group awarding Trump and excluding HBCU students from participating, the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center was removed as a sponsor for the criminal justice forum at Benedict College.

“After their removal, Harris announced she will join students, Mayor Steve Benjamin and the broader Columbia community on campus at Benedict to discuss critical issues for the country’s justice system.”

During the event, Harris railed both against Trump and the fact he won the same award she did back in 2016.

She stated, “Let me just be clear so you can hear it from me.

“I refused to come because frankly Benedict College students were excluded and also I said I wouldn’t come because I couldn’t believe that Donald Trump would be given an award as it relates to criminal justice reform.

“This is someone who’s disrespected the voices who have fought for justice and sacrificed to create leadership around justice in this system.

“Someone who dares, dares, use the words lynching on the soil of South Carolina where blood has been spilled, he dares to compare himself to the people who have been on the wrong side of the system.

“That is inappropriate.”

I have to wonder, though, if Harris will call out the numerous Democrats that characterized the Clinton impeachment as a lynching, including her fellow Democrat candidate, Joe Biden.

Perhaps that is why she specifically said “the soil of South Carolina,” that way she has a disclaimer not to call out her fellow Democrats for using the same word.

The 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center has yet to comment on the removal as a sponsor of the forum due to Harris’ pressure.
