House Members Appear to be Turning on Pelosi

The House appears to be turning against the firm hand of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

Some very powerful members of the House, including several committee chairmen, are demanding Pelosi stop stalling and that she move forward with impeaching Donald Trump.

Impeaching Trump

Calls for impeaching Trump started before he ever set foot in the White House.

The moment the election results were finalized, Democrats like Maxine Waters said they already had grounds for impeachment.

Waters, who does chair one House Committee, has never backed off.

When the 2018 election cycle started, younger Democrats running for office, like Rashida Tlaib, campaigned on being able to impeach Trump if elected to office.

Tlaib has impeachment documents at the ready, but she has been discouraged from putting them on the floor by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Most Democrats were on board with delaying this as a last resort, but that has changed considerably over the last two months.

The Mueller Report Failed Them

Democrats were positive the Mueller report was going to give them everything they needed against Trump.

When the report fell through, most expected the cries of impeachment to be quieted, but they have only grown louder.

Democrats know this could be their last chance to hurt Trump before the next election cycle and they want to do everything in their power to prevent him from being elected.

To this point, Pelosi appears to be treating impeachment as a weapon, holding it off until absolutely necessary.

I believe she wants to wait until after the 2020 elections to see how things pan out.

As it stands now, the impeachment may get through the House, but it will die in the Senate.

By waiting, Pelosi can hope for two scenarios that will help the impeachment case.

First, if Trump wins re-election and the Democrats take the Senate, they can move forward to try to remove him during his second term.

Second, if Trump loses the election, this just goes away and Dems have the power.

More and more Democrats are not willing to wait, however.

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) has been publicly calling out Pelosi over her lack of action, accusing her of playing politics rather doing what he deems to be right for the country.

Even Rep. Nadler (D-NY) is starting to push Pelosi towards impeachment, claiming he can no longer hold off his committee members.

Trump has been all but daring Democrats to impeach him because he knows right now, they not only do not have a case, but they will not win.

It will come off as a partisan act that could completely backfire if most Americans see them as abusing the procedure to gain power.

Pelosi is in a very uncomfortable spot right now.

She knows, if she moves forward and loses, it could cost Democrats the House.

On the other hand, if she continues to ignore the calls from her fellow House Democrats, she may very well face an uprising in her own party that costs her the Speaker’s gavel.
