House Oversight Committee Expanding Probes into Trump

We are not even a week into the new congressional session and Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) have already opened up two new investigations into Trump.

We reported on the first investigation earlier this week, in that the House Judiciary Committee is now investigating the already investigated hush payments to the two women President Trump allegedly had affairs with prior to becoming president.

Now, the House Oversight Committee is opening up another investigation into Vice President Pence’s trip to Ireland, specifically the fact that he stayed at  Trump-owned property while visiting Doonbeg, Ireland.

Emoluments Clause

The latest investigation is being investigated using the Emoluments Clause.

This is not the first time the House has gone after Trump on this and it surely will not be the last.

This particular investigation, though, is looking into the fact that VP Pence stayed at a Trump property while visiting Ireland on official government business.

Cummings wrote, “The Committee does not believe that U.S. taxpayer funds should be used to personally enrich President Trump, his family, and his companies.”

When asked about the latest investigation, Pence stated, “I understand political attacks by Democrats.

“But if you have a chance to get to Doonbeg you’ll find it’s a fairly small place, and the opportunity to stay at Trump National in Doonbeg to accommodate the unique footprint that comes with our security detail and other personnel made it logical.

“We checked it with the State Department, they approved us staying there.”

President Trump also defended the decision to have Pence stay there, stating, “We have a series of magnificent buildings … very luxurious rooms.

“We have incredible conference rooms, incredible restaurants, it’s like — it’s like such a natural.”

The House Judiciary Committee is investigating a similar matter in Trump requesting to hold the next G7 Summit meeting at his Doral property.

On that investigation, Trump stated, “They went to places all over the country and they came back and they said, ‘This is where we’d like to be.’

“It’s not about me. It’s about getting the right location.

“I’m not going to make any money.

“I don’t want to make money.

“I don’t care about making money.”

To add a little more fuel to the fire, it was also recently discovered that Attorney General William Barr is holding a Christmas Party at the Trump property in D.C. to the tune of about $30,000.

Honestly, at this point, as far as Democrats are concerned, it does not matter if the Trump properties are offering the best prices and offer the best logistics. Because they are Trump properties, they are going to put up a red flag and say that something hokey is going on.

Trump would probably be best served by simply taking his properties out of the equation. Otherwise, he is going to be neck-deep in investigations until his last day in office.
