ICYMI: Barack Obama’s Less Than Flattering Comments about Baltimore After 2015 Riots

After the death of Freddie Gray, while being held in police custody in 2015, resulted in riots throughout Baltimore, then-President Barack Obama had some brutally honest comments about the community and the situation.

Obama stated, “if you have impoverished communities that have been stripped away of opportunities, where children are born into abject poverty, they’ve got parents — often because of substance abuse problems, or incarceration, or lack of education themselves — can’t do right by their kids.”

He would go on to criticize the fact there were “no fathers who can provide guidance to young men.”

He also stated that “drugs were flooding the community.”

No, this is not right-wing spin, but the direct words of President Barack Obama himself…

Different Words, Same Sentiment

Trump phrased his critique of Baltimore differently, but he was, in essence, saying the same thing Obama did more than three years ago.

West Baltimore, which is part of Rep. Cummings’ 7th District, is a mess.

Residents are poor, many with no jobs and no future.

Crime is often the family business, be it theft or drugs.

These individuals have been completely ignored for decades and the situation continuously gets worse with every passing day.

Most of these individuals don’t choose to live there… they are stuck there.

They simply have no way out.

Rep. Cummings has been in office for two decades, so much of this has happened on his watch, and he has done nothing to fix it.

Getting Worse by the Day

Everyone knows inner cities are tough.

It is where crime runs rampant and the poorest of the poor live.

However, to know this and as an elected representative to do nothing about it is shameful.

2015 should have been a wakeup call for the city of Baltimore and its representatives at all levels of government to do something to implement change, but it was just ignored.

Eventually, the riots died down and it was business as usual, with the downward spiral continuing.

Tens of millions of federal dollars have been given to this community, but where did it go?

What has been done to fix these neighborhoods and offer these individuals a path out of this vicious cycle?

These are the questions the media should be asking.

These are the questions that need to be put to Cummings rather than everyone giving him a blanket defense simply because he is a man of color.

Obama knew about it in 2015… Bernie Sanders knew about it in 2015… and nobody lifted a finger, so you can’t blame Trump for telling the truth and exposing the fraud and corruption that is obviously taking place in Baltimore’s 7th District.
