ICYMI: Nadler Tweet About Holder Contempt Charges in 2012

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) is leading the charge to hold Attorney General Barr in contempt.

He claims it is his duty, but that was not exactly Nadler’s take in 2012 when a Republican-led committee was doing the same thing to Eric Holder, Barack Obama’s Attorney General at the time…

Holder’s Contempt

Remember the presidency that did not have any scandals?

Well, Holder was being held in contempt on one of the worst scandals the Obama administration faced… Fast and Furious.

While the operation was under investigation in Congress, Holder was asked for documents related to the government-backed gun-running operation.

Holder refused and was facing a similar reaction then from Republicans as Barr is now by Democrats.

The difference, though, is Republicans actually took part in the hearings against Barr.

When faced with his challenge in 2012, Nadler and roughly 100 of his fellow Democrats walked out of the session in protest.

The final vote came down at 255-67 in favor of holding Holder in contempt, with 17 Democrats voting in favor of the measure.

Immediately after the vote, House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) stated, “Today, a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for his continued refusal to produce relevant documents.

“This was not the outcome I had sought and it could have been avoided had Attorney General Holder actually produced the subpoenaed documents he said he could provide.”

What is notable about that case, however, is the fact Republicans waited more than 400 days before moving forward with their vote.

Then and Now

At the time the vote took place, Holder stated, “Today’s vote is the regrettable culmination of what became a misguided and politically motivated investigation during an election year.

“By advancing it over the past year and a half, Congressman Issa and others have focused on politics over public safety.”

If you may recall, the operation to which Holder referred ended up putting a gun in the hands of someone that killed a Border Patrol officer.

That sounds significantly more serious than a political stunt.

What is happening today, however, IS a political stunt.

Democrats are holding Barr in contempt for a report that is protected under the law.

They want access to Grand Jury testimony that if Barr revealed, he would be breaking the law.

Not exactly the same as allowing guns to be sold internationally and losing track of them.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) made that very point.

Rubio stated, “The fight with Barr is a political stunt.

“Real oversight was when the House sought documents about #FastandFurious an Eric Holder program that allowed guns to reach drug cartels in Mexico.”

For months now, we have been accusing Democrats of abusing their power and after comparing the two cases, it is pretty clear that is what is happening here.

It is imperative we get them all voted out of office in 2020 or we are going to find ourselves an endangered species very soon.
