Liberal NYU Professor Blasted by Trump for Tweeting Bogus Quote

A liberal NYU Professor wanted to get the attention of the President. He got that and much more.

After tweeting out a fake quote by President Trump, Ian Bremmer felt the weight of both the President and his supporters.

If You Read It on the Internet…

Contrary to popular belief, not everything you read on the Internet is true.

Several alt-media and regular media outlets pounced on a quote sent out by NYU Professor Ian Brenner this weekend.

It may have had something to do with the fact Bremmer doubles as a columnist for Time Magazine.

Bremmer, who is also the founder of the Eurasia Group, sent out a tweet citing a quote from Trump:

“President Trump in Tokyo: ‘Kim Jong Un is smarter and would make a better President than Sleepy Joe Biden.’”

Not long after the tweet went out, several articles popped up with Trump siding with the North Korean Leader.

Had they waited just a few minutes to pounce, they would have realized the quote had been completely fabricated by Bremmer.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of Trump supporters called Bremmer out over the quote.

President Trump even took note…

Bremmer has since apologized for sending out the deceptive tweet, claiming it was only in jest.

First Amendment

Bremmer is a political science professor at NYU and considered a foreign policy expert.

Point being, when he sends out a tweet like that, most people assume it is fact, not a joke.

Bremmer claims his tweet should be protected under the First Amendment, but how far does that protection go?

I am all for the freedom of the press and freedom of speech but when you print blatant lies, should there not be punishment?

There are literally thousands of alt-media sites on both the left and right that twist the truth every day.

It has gotten so bad, the mainstream media cherry picks quotes to invent stories rather than tell the entire story.

People deserve to know the facts, not be deceived by outlets and people they deem to be trustworthy.

President Trump has stated several times he would like to change the libel laws to hold people like Bremmer accountable for their words.

The problem, though, is there are no federal libel laws and the federal government has no influence on state libel laws.

If Trump wants this changed, it would mean Congress actually sitting down to write legislation to address the problem.

In today’s climate and considering the Democrats are benefitting from the fake news stories right now, that is not likely to happen.
