Massachusetts Democrat Wants Prisoners Released Over Coronavirus Concerns

I have heard or some pretty stupid ideas in my lifetime by leftist politicians, but this one really takes the case.

Squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) is advocating for the release of elderly prisoners due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Set Them Free

Prisons are overcrowded for a reason… these people have committed a crime.

So, rather than look for a solution to deter crime, liberals have fallen in love with the idea that we need less stringent sentences, no bail release, and early releases from prison.

Pressley is now using the coronavirus to pursue her cause and create a mass release of prisoners over the age of 60 that have underlying health concerns.

She stated, “I think now would be the time, to commute some sentences, to exact clemency and to take care of our most vulnerable.

“Ten percent of those incarcerated are over the age of 60 and already have an underlying condition.

“We should be using compassionate release.”

Pressley added, “Given the overpopulating and the fact that many of these facilities are already subpar and that many incarcerated men and women do not have access to soap, to alcohol-based hand sanitizers, to regular showers, what is the guidance, both for those incarcerated and for staff?”

Not surprisingly, the rest of her fellow Squad members are on board with this idiotic idea, and all of them are in the midst of lobbying the Bureau of Prisons to release these prisoners.

Where Will They Go?

Leftists are going to love her proposal, but she does not take into account the repercussions of her actions.

For instance, where exactly are these prisoners going to live and how are they going to care for themselves?

It is a fairly safe assumption they won’t have insurance, they won’t be able to get a job, and many of them may not even have family to live with until they get settled.

So, what would they resort to? Probably what they already know best… crime.

Even with overcrowding in prisons, right now, these people have a roof over their head, they are getting fed, and if they have a medical issue, it will be cared for by prison doctors.

Prisons also have the ability to ensure these prisoners are kept in isolation if someone tests positive.

Honestly, right now, they are probably far safer in prison regarding the virus than they are walking the streets.
