Last time I checked, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is supposed to be one of Trump’s biggest supporters in Congress.
So, can someone please tell me why he introduced a resolution on Tuesday to counter Trump’s push for peace on the North Syrian border?
Defying Trump
McConnell did not even try to sugarcoat his defiance.
When introducing his legislation, he stated, “If not arrested, withdrawing from Syria will invite more of the chaos that breeds terrorism and creates a vacuum our adversaries will certainly fill.”
McConnell also stated that if this withdrawal goes through, Russia will have significant leverage in the Middle East as a direct result of the Trump move to pull troops out of Northern Syria.
Senator McConnell was not alone in his defiance, as Senator Burr (R-N.C.) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have also opposed Trump on this.
Burr stated, “Congress has a voice, and now is the time … to exercise it.”
The only politician I have seen come close to supporting Trump on this is Senator Paul (R-KY), who stated that we must allow Trump to continue down this path to broker this peace deal.
Why the Pushback?
Americans really need to start asking themselves what do our elected representatives really stand for.
After Trump initially announced the ceasefire deal with Turkey, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took a delegation to the Middle East to undermine Trump.
Now, Republican leaders are speaking out against him without even giving the deal a chance to work.
If this does work out, he will have brokered a peace deal in an area of the Middle East that has never known peace and did so without putting American lives at risk.
Why are so many of our politicians so quickly in favor of keeping us in these forever wars in the Middle East?
Could it possibly be because lobbyists are lining their campaigns with stacks upon stacks of cash?
Could it be their loyalties lie more with weapons manufacturers than the American people?
These are the questions Americans need to ask before they pull a handle on election day 2020.
