McConnell Gives Blistering Floor Speech After Accusations of Being Russian Agent by Media

Earlier this week, the Washington Post published an article accusing Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) of being a Russian agent.

McConnell is generally not one to feed into media hit jobs, but this one cut deep and he was not about to let it go unaddressed.

The Hit Piece

The article in WaPo was written by columnist Dana Milbank.

McConnell was quick to point out this “writer” had regularly ignored Obama’s “feckless” Russian policies.

Milbank went after McConnell because he refused to bring several Democrat pieces of legislation for election security to the floor for a vote.

She went on to accuse McConnell of “aiding and abetting” the Russians in hijacking the next presidential election.

In response, McConnell stated, “I don’t normally take the time to respond to critics in the media when they have no clue what they’re talking about.

“But, this modern-day McCarthyism is toxic, and damaging, because of the way it warps our entire public discourse.

“Facts matter.

“Details matter.

“History matters, and if our nation is losing our ability to debate public policy without screaming about treason, that really matters.

“In the middle of the 20th century, the original McCarthyism hurt America’s strength and diminished our standing in the Cold War by dividing us against ourselves.”

Why Not Pass the Legislation?

With the alleged problems we have had with our elections, wondering why McConnell is so adamantly against federal election legislation is a natural question.

McConnell is against it because he believes this is something that is better left up to the states to handle.

His argument is that there is no “one-fix” for every state.

The Democrat legislation, quite frankly, had stipulations that simply would not work for certain areas of the country.

While people like Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) have also blasted McConnell for killing this legislation, they fail to talk about the $380 million the federal government handed out to states to shore up their election processes last year.

McConnell has a long and well-documented record on putting the screws to Russia, so there simply is no way the article in WaPo can be taken seriously or that it should have even been published.

For a publication that has “Democracy dies in the darkness” on its masthead, it is sure proving it does in fact like to keep certain facts behind closed doors while pushing ONLY the liberal narrative.
