Mexican President Lashes Out at Trump After Tariffs Announcement

The first response by Mexico to Trump’s new tariff plan was to send a delegation to try to work things out.

We were shocked at the time Mexican leadership did not go after Trump, as they had in the past.

Well, that changed dramatically over the weekend, as Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador has finally pushed back against the tariffs.

Getting Nasty

As López Obrador allows thousands of people to travel across his territory every day, making their way to our border, he now dares tell the President he is wrong for wanting to protect his own country.

On Thursday, López Obrador issued a formal letter calling out Trump over the new escalating tariff scale.

In the letter, he stated that Trump is “turning the United States, overnight, from a country of brotherly love for immigrants from around the world, to a bolted space, where there’s stigmatizing, mistreatment, abuse, persecution, and a denial of the right to justice to those who seek — with sacrifice and hard work — to live free from misery.”

He further went on to say, “The Statue of Liberty is not an empty symbol.”

Now, I don’t know about you guys, but I am getting a little sick and tired of other world leaders telling us how to conduct our business as well as purposely misleading the immigration issue to suit their own agenda.

It’s About Illegal Immigration

I do not know a single conservative that is against immigration.

We all, however, are against illegal immigration, and that is what this is really about.

Mexico has had two years to work with this administration to get illegal immigration under control, but they have done nothing but posture and laugh in our face.

Immigration must be controlled or a country will crumble, period.

Nobody is trying to rob anyone of an opportunity for a better life; we just want them to do it legally.

Now, Mexico has no choice but to work or it will see its own economy crumble.

The new tariff plan by Trump begins immediately at five percent and escalates by another five percent through October, at which point it will remain at 25 percent until Mexico helps the administration get this problem under control.

Trump is not asking for miracles, just a concentrated effort to discourage people from traveling across Mexico to our southern border.

Now, Mexico has a legitimate stake in our problem and if they don’t help us, they are going to pay the price.

While this may impact goods and services negatively in the short term, it is but a small price to pay for the long-term positive effect it will have on our country.
