Obama-Appointed Judge Blocks Border Wall Construction

Once again, a federal judge appointed by Barack Obama has proven to be more powerful than the President of the United States.

Judge Haywood Gilliam has halted the reallocation of funds from the Pentagon to border wall construction with the swipe of his pen.

Judge Gilliam

Haywood Gilliam is probably a name you have never heard before.

Now, however, he will more than likely become a household name for conservatives as he slammed the brakes on scheduled border wall construction along the Texas and Arizona southern borders.

Gilliam became a partner at Bingham McCutchen in 2006, then moved onto Covington & Burling, where he was a partner as well as the Vice Chair of White Collar Defense, an investigative practice group within the same firm.

In September 2014, he was nominated to the Northern District of California’s District Court and was shortly thereafter approved.

He assumed office just before Christmas in December 2014.

To this point, he has absolutely no notable rulings and now he will be part of history.

Blocking the President

President Trump’s biggest obstacle during this administration has not been the Democrats, it has been the courts.

Don’t get me wrong, Pelosi and company have made his life miserable, but the administration has still been able to push forward.

Where it comes to a screeching halt is when legislation or policy are taken to the lower courts and some liberal judge decides to get his name in the papers.

In his ruling, Gilliam wrote, “In short, the position that when Congress declines the Executive’s request to appropriate funds, the Executive nonetheless may simply find a way to spend those funds ‘without Congress’ does not square the fundamental separation of powers principles dating back to the earlier days of our Republic.”

President Trump and the administration have repeatedly tried to work with Democrats on border wall funding, but they are not budging.

In the meantime, we are seeing more illegal border crossings than at any other time in recent history.

Until we find better ways to deter these people from coming to the border this way, this crisis is only going to get worse.
