Op-Ed: Why Attacking Mitt Romney Post-Impeachment is a Colossal Mistake

Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) now has the distinction of being the first member of the Senate to have voted against a president in his party during an impeachment.

That is a shame that he will have to live with forever and believe me, he will pay a dear political price for what he did.

I have never liked Mitt Romney, I have never trusted Mitt Romney, but attacking him post-impeachment acquittal is a monstrous mistake and it must be stopped now.

I know you are already thinking about closing out the page and unfollowing me, but I am begging you, hear my argument before you do so and I promise you, you will see that I am right.

The Expel Mitch Movement

After word of Romney going against Trump on abuse of power circulated, Donald Trump Jr. got the not-so-brilliant idea of starting an expel Mitt movement.

Emotions were running high and everyone jumped on board, including Laura Ingraham, Judge Jeanine, and Dan Bongino.

It did not take long for the hashtag to go viral and now everyone and their mother is saying we should expel Romney from the party.

Let me ask you this question…

How does that make us any better than what the Democrats just tried to do to our President?

Romney was elected to office by the people of Utah and ONLY the people of Utah.

They are the ones that get to decide his fate, not pundits, not conservative personalities, not Donald Trump Jr., and no, not even the President.

We just fought tooth and nail to end a coup against Trump and every bit of momentum we gained with this incredible win will be lost if this petulant behavior continues.

Who Does It Benefit?

That is the question everyone needs to ask before they sent another attack against Mitt.

He may or may not decide to resign on his own, but that is his decision. However, if he resigns from the pressure put on him by anyone other than the people of Utah, Democrats win.

On the Senate floor, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called Donald Trump a vindictive, vengeful man that Republicans feared for the wrath he would bring down on them if they crossed him.

That statement ends up being prophetic if we, as conservatives, continue to attack Romney at this moment in time.

He still has more than four years in office, so there will be a time and place to go after him, but it is not now.

Today, we need to leave him alone to wallow in his disgrace. Do NOT allow the Democrats to make him a martyr and prove them to be right.

We are far better than this, or at least we are supposed to be. Voters in this country decide who gets into office, not angry mobs acting as keyboard warriors and surely not pundits on TV.

We won and we won huge with the acquittal of Trump. We have every bit of momentum heading into the 2020 election.

At this point, Romney is a pimple on the ass of an elephant… he is inconsequential.

We have a bigger fight ahead of us… we must expose the corruption of Joe Biden and the hypocrisy of Bernie Sanders.

We need to not only re-elect Donald Trump, but we also must win back the House and keep the Senate.

These attacks against Romney and insistence we expel him for the party create nothing more than talking points for Democrats and hurt us… I assure you they do not help.

Look forward, patriots, not behind, because we have a massive fight ahead of us and that fight is with Biden, Sanders, and the Democrat party, not Mitt Romney.
