The Senate Intelligence Committee finally wrapped up its review regarding Russian interference.
With the report out, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hinted the Russians may have something on Trump as well as insisting the next stimulus will cover vote-by-mail for the 2020 presidential election.
The Senate Report
Democrats are now frothing at the mouth in what they believe is another “gotcha” moment on Trump.
The Senate Intelligence Committee’s conclusion supported intelligence agencies in their conclusions that Russians tried to interfere in the 2016 election to the benefit of Trump.
When Pelosi was asked about the conclusion, she stated, “Well, I’m not surprised. As a member of the Gang of Eight, I watched this whole investigation proceed.
“It leads you to the question about what does Vladimir Putin have on President Trump personally, politically, financially, in every way?
“No matter what the president says, it cannot be denied. But it takes us to the next step. They have also told us 24/7 the Russians are still at work trying to undermine our election.
“That is why we have to have an important chunk of money in this next bill that will enable us to protect the integrity of our elections, as well as enable the American people to vote by mail, especially at this time of a health danger in going to the polls.”
Here is the thing, though… no votes were changed and the successful interference was more or less Russian trolls blowing up social media and ads.
Nobody seems to mention the fact that those same reports also stated that the Russians were doing the same for Bernie Sanders.
How impactful were their efforts? How can you say it went one way or the other with Sanders failing and Trump winning?
It is blatant one-sided reporting by the media to undermine Trump.
That is not even addressing the issue of Pelosi hinting we have a sitting president that is somehow indebted to the Russians.
Her insinuation is sickening, quite frankly, and not even worth discussing further.
It is also worth noting that this type of interference happens in every election. To this date, though, no election has ever been successfully penetrated and no votes have ever been changed.
Realistically, how much more influential are the ads taken out by foreign agents than the misinformation we see every day by both SuperPACs and candidates during an election cycle?
It should also be noted the United States has done its fair share of interference in foreign elections.
Vote-by-Mail
The second bombshell by Pelosi was that she will insist on vote-by-mail stipulations in the next stimulus package, assuming there is one.
Pelosi promised that there will be a “chunk of money” earmarked to provide for a vote-by-mail option come November.
She doesn’t want to try to present this on its own because she knows it has no chance of passing at all.
Pelosi will, however, attach it to the stimulus to make Republicans look like the bad guys for holding up funding if they, as expected, reject the idea of vote-by-mail.
We have more than enough time to come up with other alternatives than to use a system that is open to corruption.
Be it extending the election to more days and/or to offer specific times for voting, it has to be in-person to ensure the voting is on the up-and-up.
If we can go to the supermarket, we can go to the voting booth, it is as simple as that.
