Pete Buttigieg Cancels Appearance, Leaves Campaign Trail

Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg was forced to leave the campaign trail on Sunday for a reason that brings up a major issue for many Americans during elections.

Buttigieg had to return to South Bend, Indiana to deal with a city crisis due to an officer-involved shooting.

The Shooting

Early Sunday morning, an officer responded to a call for someone breaking into vehicles.

The shooting, we found out later in the day, led to a fatality.

The officer is on administrative leave now pending an investigation into the incident.

To be clear, it is 100 percent correct for Buttigieg to leave to address this incident.

Buttigieg even stated that he has learned the hard way, the best thing to do is get out in front of it as quick as possible and keep the people informed while being as transparent as possible.

The problem, though, is that he was not in South Bend in the first place.

Resign to Run

An issue that has always been a pet peeve is candidates running for one office while holding another.

Someone always loses out and it is usually the people that voted for the current office the candidate is holding.

In no way, shape, or form do I believe that Pete Buttigieg being in South Bend would have prevented that shooting.

However, had he been in South Bend, he would have been able to find out about it quicker and respond quicker.

Ultimately, that is his job right now, to serve the people of South Bend.

That is something he is only doing half-heartedly while he races across the country in order to get votes.

Buttigieg also has an appearance scheduled on Monday that he will not be able to attend now.

Instead, he is sending his husband.

How fair is it those individuals that expected to hear from a presidential candidate they were considering voting for?

Everyone loses in this scenario.

We can say the same thing about the people of Vermont and Bernie Sanders or Kamala Harris in California or Cory Booker in New Jersey, as well as virtually every other candidate in the race.

Does de Blasio really have time to tour the country and campaign as the Mayor of New York City?

If you hold an office and want to run for president, go for it, but resign your current office and allow someone to serve the people that will actually serve and represent them as they deserve.
