What happened in Portland, Oregon on Saturday was shameful.
It appears, though, it all went down with the blessing of Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler.
Hands Off Approach
Wheeler is afraid of turning his police force loose on protesters for fear of charges of police brutality.
In October of last year, Wheeler stated, “This is the story of Goldilocks and the two bears.
“The porridge is either too hot or it’s too cold.
“At any given moment in this city, the police are criticized for being heavy-handed and intervening too quickly, or they’re being criticized for being standoffish and not intervening quickly enough.”
Rather than risk an officer being overzealous, Wheeler has seemingly decided to take a hands-off approach to potentially violent rallies like the one ANTIFA held this past Saturday.
No Excuse
There are simply no excuses for what was allowed to happen to journalist Andy Ngo while he was covering the event.
Ngo had already reported an assault to officers, which by the tone of the officers, was never taken seriously.
Ngo was then brutally assaulted by ANTIFA members and the police were nowhere to be found.
Not the First Time
As you may recall, this is not the first time ANTIFA has been permitted to turn violent on the streets of Portland while protesting.
Last year, videos showed police officers standing aside while a 74-year-old man had the window of his Lexus broken because he turned down a street being occupied by ANTIFA members.
Staying Silent
This latest attack, though, falls directly in the lap of Wheeler.
His police officers were clearly given a directive to not get involved.
New videos and pictures have surfaced today with officers being hit with eggs and other items while never even attempting to arrest anyone for assault.

There are dozens of clear assaults on social media, yet only three arrests were reported during the entire day.
Mayor Wheeler generally tweets several times a day, but he has yet to post anything since Friday, instead choosing to hide while his streets become a war zone.
How can a Mayor stay this silent while the streets of his city are being terrorized by the likes of ANTIFA.
Had this been a conservative group or white nationalist or neo-Nazi group, you better bet your bottom dollar that the police department would have been out in force.
But, because it is a liberal group, Wheeler is literally afraid to protect his citizens against their attacks.
Without question, Wheeler should be forced to resign from his post immediately because he is clearly not worthy of being Mayor and especially not worthy of dictating policy to his police department.
