Rep. Elijah Cummings Suddenly Passed Away Overnight

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) has had recent health problems, but nobody really knew the extent.

Cumming has been missing from the House since a recent medical procedure from which he was only supposed to be out a week.

As it turns out, Cummings apparently had numerous health problems that have been bothering him for some time, and he finally succumbed to them early this morning, passing away at Johns Hopkins just before 3:00 a.m. this morning.

And the Tributes Come Pouring In

As we can expect, the tributes started to roll in the moment news of his passing circulated.

The Capitol will fly its flag at half staff, as will the White House.

Cummings’ wife, who also serves as the Chairwoman of the Maryland Democrat Party, called her husband “an honorable man who proudly served his district and the nation with dignity, integrity, compassion and humility.

“He worked until his last breath because he believed our democracy was the highest and best expression of our collective humanity and that our nation’s diversity was our promise, not our problem.

“I loved him deeply and will miss him dearly.”

Senator Chuck Schumer stated, “He was not just a great congressman, he was a great man.”

Baltimore Mayor Bernard C. Young stated, “people throughout the world have lost a powerful voice and one of the strongest and most gifted crusaders for social justice.”

Even President Trump, who was a sworn enemy of Cummings’, stated, “My warmest condolences to the family and many friends of Congressman Elijah Cummings.

“I got to see first hand the strength, passion and wisdom of this highly respected political leader. His work and voice on so many fronts will be very hard, if not impossible, to replace!”

Career Politician

Elijah Cummings made a name for himself as a civil rights activist.

His work during that time is well-documented and demands respect. His life as a politician, however, is a completely different story.

Cummings first entered office in 1983, when he won a seat in the Maryland State House.

He would serve in that role through 1996 when he was elected to office for Maryland’s 7th District as its State Representative in Congress.

He would remain in that seat until his death this morning.

While parts of his district are overrun with homelessness, trash, rodents, drugs, and crime, Cumming had managed to accumulate a net worth of roughly $1.3 million.

So, no, you will not be hearing any tribute by me about Cummings today because I believe he was part of the problem in Washington, D.C.

I will not throw salt on the wound on the day of his death, but I believe it would be hypocritical to laud a man that was a major part of this witch hunt as well as someone that has regularly lied to the American people to push his own agenda and help Dems win power in our government.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Cummings, but I look forward to someone taking over your seat that actually has the welfare of his or her constituents at the forefront of his or her agenda.
