President Trump has obviously been raked over the coals by Democrats for the killing of General Soleimani.
Why this is happening is baffling, as Soleimani was a terrorist on the scale of bin Laden, which had support on both sides of the aisle when he was taken out.
To that very point, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), an Army veteran who is a double amputee, asked one simple question that drew crickets from his fellow members of Congress that have been railing against the Soleimani strike.
Dead Silence
The session was reminiscent of the early days of then-Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), where he could bring a deafening silence to a debate room with one question.
Rep. Mast simply wanted to know if a single Democrat could provide one name on the memorial walls outside of the congressional offices that would justify Soleimani not being killed.
He stated, “I look at Soleimani as a terrorist machine gun nest, really.
“He’s been spraying rounds at the U.S. for many years on many different fronts.
“You want to ask is [an attack] imminent? Well, just because this machine gun nest might be taking a moment to reload, that doesn’t mean that it’s not an imminent threat.
“It just got done firing rounds over at our embassy. … Just because it was taking a breather to reload — that didn’t mean it wasn’t an imminent threat because it wasn’t literally pushing the button on something.
“There’s a number of my colleagues still remaining here.
“I am more than willing to yield to any of my colleagues that want to answer this question.
“If you walk out this hallway and you take a right and another right, and another right, you’re going to come to several beautiful walls that have the names of our fallen service members from the war on terror.
“And I would ask, can any of you provide me one name on that wall that does not justify killing Soleimani?”
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) became perturbed at the silence, even stating Mast was out of order, but Mast refused to lie down.
In fact, as the awkward silence continued, another Republican yielded some of his time to Mast to really allow the point to sink in.
When Engel tried to move the hearing forward, Mast again protested, which resulted in everyone sitting in utter silence for the remainder of Mast’s time.
For the record, nobody was able to answer his question.
