Sanders Compares Possible Coronavirus Fatalities to WWII Deaths

The fearmongering by Democrats has reached an epic level that is beyond dangerous.

During his most recent press conference, Bernie Sanders just tried to scare the bejesus out of Americans by stating we could possibly have as many deaths from the coronavirus as military troops died during World War II.

World War II-like Pandemic

To be clear, again, I am not trying to downplay the seriousness of the coronavirus but it is far from the plague Democrats are making it out to be.

In 2009-10, we ran into a similar challenge with the H1N1 virus.

Our government should have known from its failures in that emergency to make sure a repeat did not happen, but regarding testing kits and the like, we clearly did not.

Even so, this is a virus that will soon have a treatment and within 18 months or less, we will have a vaccine, the same timeline as the H1N1.

Not only that, but the warmer weather will slow down the virus, just as it does the flu (which we already have 20,000 deaths from this flu season).

Point being, we should not be politicizing this health crisis for political gain, but that is exactly what is happening.

Sanders, during a recent press conference, stated, “We also have to face the truth and that is that the number of casualties may actually be even higher than what the armed forces experienced in World War II.

“In other words, we have a major, major crisis and we must act accordingly.”

In WWII, the United States had 416,000 military deaths.

Worldwide, there were more than 15,000,000 military death and 45,000,000 civilian deaths.

While we have only 40 deaths currently in the United States and just under 5,000 worldwide, Bernie Sanders is now projecting that will increase 10,000 times that in the United States and 3,000 times that worldwide.

To put it bluntly, that is bullshit.

Where the hell is Sanders getting these numbers from and why is the media not challenging him to produce raw data to back up these ridiculous claims?

During the 2009-10 H1N1 outbreak, the CDC and WHO did an exceptional job of chopping down misinformation to keep everyone calm.

I would expect for political reasons, not wanting to get labeled as an echo-chamber for Trump, neither organization is publicly challenging any statement that is being made by Democrats.

By allowing Sanders to make claims such as this, both are negligent in doing one of the most basic tasks they have during a health crisis such as this, which is to immediately debunk bogus information, regardless of where it is coming for or who is telling it.

The fact we have a presidential candidate uttering statements such as this is shameful and should be a wakeup call to every person in this country that no tragedy or crisis is beyond exploitation if politicians think they gain power from it.

This is a national and worldwide crisis that should NOT be used as a political football, yet presidential candidates are doing it and the media and the two most powerful health organizations in the world are allowing it to happen.

*Update – NBC News is now reporting that the attending physician for Congress and the Supreme Court has predicted anywhere from 70 million to 150 million people will be infected. Sanders must be pulling his numbers from this report, as the previously reported mortality rate is expected to be about one percent. However, these numbers were NOT issued by the CDC or the WHO, so they are unverified and a dangerous assumption, creating yet more panic.

**Update (3.15.2020) – Dr. Fauci recently stated that it would be possible for hundreds of thousands of people to die, but these projections are a worst-case scenario.
