Texas Democrat Rep. Al Green Using Trump Tweets to Push Forward Impeachment Proceedings

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) had impeachment papers drawn up against Donald Trump even before he was elected president.

Now, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) presenting a resolution deeming Trump’s tweets to be racist having passed the House, Green is moving forward with his attempt at impeaching Trump.

Privileged Resolution

Green has tried several times to get his impeachment papers on the floor of the House, always to no avail.

Up until now, most of the Democrats loved using the word impeachment, but very few them actually wanted to run the risk of trying to impeach Trump, only to have it fail on the floor.

With HR 489 having passed the floor, however, Green believes he has the ammunition he needs to get Trump impeached and this time Pelosi will not be able to stop him.

As a privileged resolution, the House has only two days to act on the measure.

This will be Green’s third attempt at having his resolution passed on the House floor, but it will be the first time he has attempted to do so while the House has been under Nancy Pelosi.

What Will Nancy Do Now?

How Pelosi moves forward with this measure may end up creating even more divide in her own party.

There are several ways this could go down.

Pelosi could decide to table the vote, which would, in essence, kill the measure.

If that happens, though, she will more than likely lose the support of Green and the New Breed, especially Rep. Tlaib.

Tlaib, as you may recall, screamed: “Let’s impeach this Mother F****r” after being elected.

She could also refer the measure to the House Judiciary Committee.

If she does that, the committee can simply hold the measure and not act on it at all.

Again, though, this would probably not sit well with Green and company, as it would be just another way of killing the legislation.

Finally, she could actually put the measure to a vote and let the chips fall where they may.

That, too, is a dangerous move because Pelosi is still not sure if there are enough Democrats in office that want to attach their name to something that will create an all-out war in both the House and Senate.

There is also the optics of Pelosi calling Trump a racist but then not being willing to act on it, just as she has done on obstruction and collusion.

From what we have seen, though, it is unlikely Green’s latest attempt at impeachment will be successful.

Some of the biggest voices in the party have already stated they will not support the measure, including Nancy Pelosi herself.

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn) stated, “If I thought it was a really good idea, I’d have done it myself.”

Fellow Texas Democrat Rep. Veronica Escobar, who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, stated, “I don’t think this is the wisest moment.”

My best guess is that Pelosi does not put it up for a vote on the House floor but defers it to the Judiciary Committee to give it the appearance of moving forward, knowing full well the measure will just sit there until at least the 2020 elections have taken place.
