Earlier this week, there was debate as to whether or not Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was going to take a quick vote to end impeachment, assuming it passes the House, or if he would allow a full Senate trial.
Trump called for a meeting with Republican Senate leadership and apparently nixed the idea of holding a vote and demanded a trial be held.
While on “Fox & Friends” on Friday, Trump stated, “Frankly, I want a trial.”
Three-fold Purpose
The first reason Trump would prefer a full trial seems to be pretty obvious, and that is to avoid any perception of political bias.
If McConnell were to choose to put this to a quick vote, Democrats and the media would roast Republicans.
Republicans are held to a different standard, so why bother giving them more fodder when you are confident you are going to defeat this impeachment.
The second reason this is good for Trump is that unlike the sham that is going on in the House, Republicans will write the rules in the Senate.
This means they can call people like Hunter and Joe Biden to the stand as well as the other Democrat officials they wanted to speak to.
If the Bidens refuse to show, we can then accuse Joe Biden of the same “obstruction” claims that Democrats are hitting Trump with now.
It will also give them a bit more leverage to investigate Joe Biden, something the Democrats have been blocking at every opportunity.
A third reason to call for a trial is that it will effectively end the campaign of Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and the four other Senators in the race.
Senate rules require sitting Senators to be in D.C. six days a week for the trial sessions, which means they would be forced off the campaign trail during the trial.
This would come at a very critical venture of the campaign, limiting all their exposure during the first primaries and the very critical days leading up to Super Tuesday.
This would all but hand the nomination to Joe Biden, you know, the person that Democrats say Trump is using political favors to remove from the election!
Beating Joe Biden
There are some that believe beating Joe Biden would present the biggest challenge for Trump, but I disagree.
I think Joe Biden has a closet full of skeletons and there are things he did and legislation he supported during his days as a Senator that we can use against him.
We can also dig much deeper into the Burisma dealings to show that at the very least, he used his power and influence to help his deadbeat dad son, Hunter.
Then, of course, there is Hunter.
This paternity suit IS a big deal and while the media is letting Biden off the hook now, that will not be a luxury he is going to get during a general election cycle.
Joe Biden has already given people a hint of his character when he gets called out in public, telling a former Obama supporter and volunteer that he should vote for Trump when the man questioned Biden’s immigration stance as it pertains to deportations.
Give us a few months to concentrate on Biden and he will be toast!
