Trump Calls Off Iran Strike at Last Minute

On Thursday, we all woke up to the news that one of our drones had been shot down by Iran and most expected an immediate strike to retaliate.

As it turns out, the U.S. military was ready to strike, but President Trump called it off about 10 minutes before the strike was scheduled due to concerns of mass casualties.

Call It Off

Iran was very close to having a slew of missiles launched against their people, but Trump decided to de-escalate rather than continue down a path to outright war.

According to reports, the strike was only minutes away from being carried out when Trump told them to stand down.

Trump tweeted, “… I asked, how many will die.

“150 people, sir, was the answer from a General.

“10 minutes before the strike I stopped it, not … proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone.

“I am in no hurry, our Military is rebuilt, new, and ready to go, by far the best in the world.

“Sanctions are biting & more added last night.

“Iran can NEVER have Nuclear Weapons, not against the USA, and not against the WORLD!”

Could Have Been Worse

Americans are furious over the loss of a $180 million drone, but it could have been far worse.

Several reports have surfaced that a manned surveillance plane was in the area of the drone as well, but Iran chose not to target that and take down the drone instead.

Trump has been hesitant to act and has even offered up an excuse for Iran in saying that this may have been a mistake.

Based on the statements made by Iranian officials, this was not a mistake, though.

Trump is now taking shots from both sides on showing both weakness and instigating war.

More than a few Republicans are demanding Trump take action to show strength, and Democrats are accusing Trump of actually being responsible for the aggression, although that is clearly not the case.

Something clearly has to be done, though, or Iran will continue to down this path and continue to harass our forces in the area.

It is not an easy situation for Trump but he is going to have to put aside the white noise in the background to make a strong play here at some point, it is just a matter if that choice will be more sanctions or an outright strike.
