Trump Finds $1.5 Billion for Border Wall Construction

President Trump previously stated if Congress would not give him the money for the border wall, he would find it on his own.

Trump has done just that, by shifting $1.5 billion from the Pentagon budget to build 80 more miles of border wall on our southern border.

Moving the Money

The money being reallocated has been approved by acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan.

The funds were reportedly earmarked for Afghan security forces as well as several unnamed projects.

Acting Secretary Shanahan stated, “Today, I authorized the transfer of $1.5 billion toward the construction of more than 80 miles of border barrier.

“The funds were drawn from a variety of sources, including costs savings, programmatic changes, and revised requirements, and therefore will have minimal impact on force readiness.”

This is the second time funds have been reallocated to support the building of the wall.

The first came in March when Shanahan sent $1 billion from the Pentagon budget over for wall construction.

That money paid for roughly 60 miles of wall along the Yuma, AZ and El Paso, TX borders.

Democrats Freaking Out

Needless to say, the reallocation of funds is not sitting well with congressional Democrats.

The Dems are saying Shanahan does not have the authority to reallocate funds without their direct approval.

Shanahan, of course, says that is not the case.

Dems will surely start measures to block the reallocation of these funds, as the White House has another $3.6 billion planned in the near future.

However, there has been no indication as of yet where that money will be taken from.

This may cause Shanahan some problems in the future, as he has been officially nominated by Trump to fill the role of Secretary of Defense permanently.

Defending Shanahan and the appointment, Sarah Sanders told the media on Thursday, “Acting Secretary Shanahan has proven over the last several months that he is beyond qualified to lead the Department of Defense, and he will continue to do so.”

After hearing of the nomination by Trump, Shanahan stated, “If confirmed by the Senate, I will continue the aggressive implementation of our National Defense Strategy.

“I remain committed to modernizing the force so our remarkable Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines have everything they need to keep our military lethal and our country safe.”
