As the border crisis grows larger with every passing second, President Trump is taking some drastic measures.
Since countries contributing to the problem are not helping, the State Department announced it is cutting foreign aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
Paying the Price
According to President Trump, all three of these countries have been responsible for “setting up” migrant caravans to attack our border.
On Friday, Trump stated he was not playing games anymore with these countries.
He was willing to take drastic measures, including cutting aid and closing down the southern U.S. border altogether.
Now, his administration is fulfilling one of those promises.
The entire Northern Triangle, which encompasses the three countries mentioned above, will not receive their aid package FY 2017 and FY 2018.
A State Department spokesman stated, “At the Secretary’s instruction, we are carrying out the President’s direction and ending FY 2017 and FY 2018 foreign assistance programs for the Northern Triable. We will be engaging Congress as part of this process.”
More Problems
Whether or not this gets the attention of these countries remains to be seen.
However, we know it is already getting the attention of Democrats, who continue to ignore the border crisis and look for more ways to criticize Trump.
Several pundits have already come forward to say this is only going to create more migrants flocking to the United States.
Reason being, the aid they would be getting would help contribute to “promote opportunity and security for their citizens.”
We could then counter that claim by asking for accountability of the money they have received over the years.
With the billions of dollars we have sent them, should these opportunities and security not already be in place, or at least some semblance of it?
If that money is that important to these countries, then their leadership will get off the dime and start assisting our country by preventing these massive caravans and creating some semblance of order for migrants leaving to come to the United States.
We simply cannot continue to fill the coffers of these countries while they literally allow their citizens to overrun our country.
