President Trump really needs to employ someone to check his tweets before he sends them out.
In the midst of the impeachment calls, Trump decided sending out a tweet celebrating China would be a good idea…
Congratulations to President Xi and the Chinese people on the 70th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 1, 2019
I have already sifted through the comments, and Trump’s diehard supporters joined right in to congratulate the People’s Republic of China on its 70th anniversary.
On the surface, Trump is trying to keep the dialogue open with President Xi, but that is hardly how this was perceived.
Point being, Trump’s intentions are irrelevant because this is all about perception and the perception of his tweet was NOT good.
In essence, Trump was celebrating seven decades of communism and an oppressive regime.
Even the most diehard of Trump supporters will have to admit this was a major gaffe by Trump.
While the expected criticism came from Democrats, Republicans were just as harsh on the presidential tweet.
Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Liz Cheney (R-WY) stated, “This is not a day for celebration.”
Senator Ben Sasse (R-Neb), stated, “Today Chinese tyrants celebrated 70 years of communist oppression with their typically brutal symbolism: by sending a police officer to shoot a pro-democracy protester at point-blank range.”
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), how has been a fervent Trump supporter, stated, “From the Great Leap Forward to the Cultural Revolution to the camps in Xinjiang today, it has been a ghoulish 70 years of Chinese Communist Party control.”
Those that have the blinders on have probably already clicked away and are writing something negative on our Facebook page, but that is a big part of the problem.
Much of Trump’s base holds this man up on a pedestal and support him no matter what he does, even when they know deep down inside it was foolish or wrong.
I have supported Trump during the Russian investigation and I think the latest call of impeachment over the Ukraine call is complete nonsense.
I do not believe we can look past Biden’s actions and his son’s business dealings simply because Biden is running for office.
However, for Trump to celebrate communism and an oppressive regime, well, that was a mistake, plain and simple.
