U.S. Surgeon General Tells Media to Dial Down the Attacks

Surgeon General Jerome Adams has a message for the media.

Dial down the crazy!

Time to Chill

With numbers relatively low here in the United States, the media has been trying to point fingers and get everyone into panic mode.

They are publishing worst-case scenario numbers rather than giving the full picture of possible outcomes.

At every opportunity, they are saying the delays in testing are going to result in the needless loss of life.

Our Surgeon General is flat-out telling them to knock it off.

Surgeon General Adams stated, “I want you all to understand — straight talk from the nation’s doctor —  we really need you all to lean into and prioritize the health and safety of the American people.

“No more bickering, no more partisanship, no more criticism or finger-pointing; they’ll be plenty of time for that, but we all need to hit the reset button and lean forward, the health and safety of the American people are top priority.”

Instead, he would prefer for the media to cover meaningful and helpful stories, such as where people can access health care and testing if they need it.

They should also be putting out stories on how to properly contain the pandemic, not evoking panic.

For every end of the world story they print, they send more people to crowded supermarkets to stock up on supplies they really don’t need.

We are NOT is a doomsday scenario, so buying five dozen eggs, 10 gallons of milk, and 1,000 rolls of toilet paper is only ensuring your neighbors can’t get the groceries and supplies they need.

I live in a town of about 50,000 people and the shelves in my grocery store were empty when I want to get some chicken for the week.

I saw one man with about three dozen boxes of cereal and another with what had to be dozens of bunches of bananas.

I am not sure what he plans on doing with them in four days when they start to spot and go bad.

Does It Hurt to Tell the Truth?

The problem with today’s media is that they all go for the click rather than the truth, simply because it is boring.

Nobody is pretending this has gone off without a hitch, but we are now headed in the right direction.

The scary thing is that we have to wonder how the media is going to play it when we see tens of thousands of cases confirmed over the next several weeks now that more testing is readily accessible or will be in the coming days.

People need to realize that in 2009-10, we had about 60 million people test positive for H1N1 and there were 12,469 deaths with NO precautionary measures.

Borders were not shut down, concerts and sporting events were not canceled, and schools remained open.

It is reasonable to expect that by the end of this month, we will have 500,000 or more confirmed cases but that does not mean the world is about to end.

So, as Surgeon General Adams stated, dial down the crazy just a little bit and put out helpful information rather than information that will cause mass panic.
