Dayton Police have released the video showing portions of the shooting as it was happening.
The footage took place just outside Ned Peppers, a bar in the Oregon District of Dayton.
Had these officers not acted when they did, it is very clear this shooter could and would have killed dozens, if not hundreds, more people.
Shocking Footage
The video released by the Dayton PD may be shocking for some people.
However, it also shows the brave actions of its police officers.
As the shooting was taking place outside of Ned Peppers, police officers rushed to the danger as the crowd ran in the opposite direction.
Just as the shooter was approaching the entrance to the bar, he was taken out with several shots from nearby officers.

Quick Response
While I am not familiar with Dayton at all, the Oregon District appears to be an area dense with food, drink, and entertainment venues.
In other words, it is THE area where people gather socially.
This was a soft target for the shooter and he clearly wanted an area where he could get as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.
Because of the nature of the area, there was a significant police presence.
Thankfully, the officers were close by and were able to respond to the shooting within 20 seconds of the first shot.
Within 10 seconds of their response, this incident was over.
The shooter was armed with a .223 caliber weapon and had 100-round drum magazines.
As police noted after the shooting, while it was already devasting, the loss of life could have been monumental if not for the heroic actions of these police officers.
