The liberal media has apparently had a come-to-Jesus moment with Democrats this week.
After several high-profile liberal pundits bashed Pelosi for saying she wants Trump in “prison,” Editor-at-Large Chris Cillizza of CNN ripped Joe Biden for his constant flip-flopping and ultimate bowing to the far left on the Hyde Amendment.
Joe’s Previous Stance
For his entire political career, Joe Biden has been pro-Hyde Amendment.
The amendment does not allow for government funding of abortions unless the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest as well as if the mother’s life is in danger from the pregnancy.
Biden has always maintained he is pro-life as well as openly not supporting abortions.
He has always stated this is part of his Catholic faith.
That position was recently defended by Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA), stating, “He is a deeply religious man.
“He is guided by his faith, his position on the Hyde Amendment has been consistent.”
Well, it was up until May 4 when Biden made an appearance in South Carolina.
On that trip, a woman approached him while taking a video and asked him if he would support the abolishment of the Hyde Amendment.
Biden said that the time, “Right now, it has to go.”
This, of course, went virtually unnoticed by the media until we on the alt-media blew it up.
As a matter of fact, SPN was one of the first outlets to bring this matter to light (you can read the full article here).
The Flip-Flop of the Flip-Flop
Soon, the mainstream media picked up steam on Biden’s sudden flip-flop and the campaign was forced to make an announcement about it.
The campaign, only two days ago, stated, “He [Biden] has not at this point changed his position on the Hyde Amendment.
“The Hyde Amendment does not prevent organizations in the US that provide lifesaving health care services for women from receiving the federal funding they need.
“But given the current draconian attempts to limit access to abortion, if avenues for women to access their protected rights under Roe v. Wade are closed, he would be open to repeal.”
Now, however, Biden is walking back that statement and once again offering to repeal the amendment.
Most believe this is because the party as a whole is against the amendment and they are putting political pressure on him to alter his stance.
CNN’s Editor-at-Large Chris Cillizza considers this to be a problem for several reasons:
“1) It can’t have been all that deeply held and based on his personal faith if he abandoned it after 48 hours of moderate pressure from liberal interest groups.
2) He’s conscious of — and concerned about — the left rebelling against him, and is willing to bend past positions (and do so quickly) in order to get out of the firing range of these liberals.”
Cillizza is dead right here, and it is something voters are going to need to take into serious consideration before pulling the handle for Creepy Uncle Joe.
National Review editor Rich Lowry also chimed in on the matter, tweeting, “This is not the move of a confident front-runner and shows that whatever Biden’s relative moderation compared to the rest of the field, it will be eroded throughout this process.”
I happen to agree with Lowry because of how serious Biden has taken this issue in the past.
Let’s face it, there are plenty of products on the market to prevent someone from getting pregnant.
There are even morning-after medications that could be taken.
To use abortion as a form of contraceptive is just absolutely ludicrous in this day and age.
If Biden is the man of faith he claims to be, specifically of the Catholic faith, this should be a no-brainer for him.
The fact he is willing to break on something he says is so near and dear proves he has no backbone at all.
If he is caving on this issue as a double-digit favorite, what will he be willing to cave on when things get tightened up or if he is in office facing pressure from a Congress that has gone completely to the far left?
It may only be one issue, but it is an issue that will send shivers down the spine of pro-life Democrats and may have just cost Biden the primary, let alone any chance he had of defeating Trump in a general election.
