Comey: ‘I never thought of that as spying’

Former FBI Director James Comey is pushing back against the comments made by Attorney General Barr during his congressional testimony.

Comey stated, “I have no idea what he’s talking about, so it’s hard for me to comment.”

“When I hear that kind of language used, it’s concerning because the FBI and the Department of Justice conduct court-ordered electronic surveillance. I have never thought of that as spying,” he added.

Comey Sounds Worried

James Comey sounds more than a bit worried, and he should be.

While technically, he may be right, the status of that surveillance could soon be changed based on the Inspector General’s investigation.

If it found that Comey and company used bogus information to secure the warrants, that changes from legal surveillance to spying, as both Trump and Barr have stated.

Comey is in protection mode at this point.

He stated, “That’s going to require a whole lot of conversations inside the Department of Justice. But I don’t know what he meant.”

Potential Misconduct

Barr has already ordered the Inspector General look into the beginnings of the investigation into Donald Trump.

The IG is already reportedly investigating the FISA warrants that were issued for Carter Page, Trump’s former campaign aide.

Additionally, the IG is supposed to be looking at an FBI informant that had been in contact with several members of the Trump team during that time.

Defending Barr

Several people have already come to the defense of Barr, most notably President Trump.

However, others have stepped in to try to clarify the statement made by Barr, taking a little sting off his comments.

An unnamed source told Fox News, “When he used the word spying, he means intelligence collection. He wasn’t using it in a pejorative sense; he was using it in the classic sense.”

The source was no doubt making reference to Barr’s earlier career in the CIA.

Comey also defended Barr at one point in his latest interview.

He stated, “I think his career has earned him a presumption that he will be one of the rare Trump cabinet members who will stand up for the truth.”

Notice, even with handing Barr a slight compliment, he managed to take a shot at the entire Trump team.

Comey’s bias comes out more and more every day.

Much of the case against Comey “spying” is going to depend on how the IG interprets the involvement of Stefan Halper, the FBI informant mentioned above.

There have already been several reports stating that Halper may have tweaked the information a tad to justify the case being made.

A Russian woman that was named by Halper as a Russian operative has already gone public to totally discount the information provided by Halper, as have several Trump associates.
