Rep. Adam Schiff Recommends Significant Penalties for Ignoring Subpoenas

To this point, Trump associates and officials have been tossing their House subpoenas in the trash can.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is also the House Intelligence Committee Chairman, wants to issue fines of as much as $25,000/day for anyone ignoring the House subpoenas.

Losing Patience

While it seems far longer, the redacted version of the Mueller report has only been out for a couple of weeks.

Attorney General Barr has on several occasions offered compromises to the Democrat leadership, but they want nothing to do with it.

To them, this is all or nothing and they want it all right now.

After Barr missed his deadline to supply the House with an unredacted version of the Mueller report, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing to hold Barr in contempt.

During those proceedings, several Republican members brought up the point that when the House was controlled by Republicans, they waited more than 400 days to hold then-Attorney General in contempt for not turning over Fast and Furious documentation.

That, as you may recall, was a government-funded gun running operation that resulted in government weapons ending up in the hands of the cartel.

One of those weapons, by the way, was used to kill a Border Patrol agent.

Even so, the Democrats say they are not waiting any longer; they want what they want right now.

Big Fines

Rep. Schiff is leading the charge to make the fines as heavy as possible to encourage Barr and several other Trump associates to comply with the subpoenas.

Schiff stated, “We would level fines on those who are not cooperating until they are compelled to produce what they are being asked to produce.”

Schiff and several other Democrats are even encouraging inherent contempt, which pretty much would give them the authority to take any measure to guarantee compliance to their subpoenas.

This is a measure that has not been taken since the 1930s.

Schiff further stated the House will look at revamping its process to ensure future subpoenas by Congress can be enforced much quicker.

We just can’t help but go back to the Benghazi investigations when Obama’s Justice Department tossed just about every subpoena issued into the trash resulting in public frustration from then-Congressman Gowdy, who was running the investigation.

While they stonewalled Republicans then, they obviously do not like the same tactic being used when they hold the gavel.

It is just yet another example of the tit-for-tat attitude in Congress that has destroyed our government and let to a standstill for more than two decades.
