President Trump is pushing for a measure that is meant to keep Americans safe, but it will surely also bring cries of racism from the New Breed.
New reports revealed President Trump is now making a strong push to have the Muslim Brotherhood declared formally as a terrorist organization.
Strong Consideration
This “idea” is something that has been on deck since Trump took over as president.
Immediately after his inauguration, there were reports floating around that Trump wanted this done ASAP.
However, that talk had been tabled for some reason, but now Trump is pushing hard to make it happen.
The move is supported by several key members of the administration, most notably Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton.
There are others in the administration, though, that fear the repercussions of racism and Islamophobia that would surely follow such a move.
This is particularly worrisome as President Trump heads into the 2020 election cycle.
The argument could easily be made, though, that liberals are going to think this way anyway and the move would sure up his base, most conservatives, and some independent voters.
Not Unprecedented
If Trump goes through with this, the United States will not be alone in designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.
Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have already made this designation.
Granted that is not exactly the lineup you want to be featured in, but it shows major powers believe this to be true.
This is also not the first time this measure has been seriously considered in this country, either.
Back in 2015, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act, hoping to have Obama make this very same designation.
At the time, Cruz stated, “As this bill details, the Brotherhood’s stated goal is to wage violent jihad against its enemies, and our legislation is a reality check that the United States is on that list as well.”
If the measure is passed, it would men no organizations could legally support or contribute to the organization without severe legal repercussions.
This would more than likely cause significant backlash from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as well as bring a flurry of pushback from the likes of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn) and Rep. Tlaib (D-Mich).
That may be Trump’s plan, however.
If he can get some of the New Breed linked to the radical organization, it could paint a path to a very difficult re-election campaign in 2020 for both Representatives.
It would also force the hand of Democrats to either support these candidates or fall in line with Trump.
While some in the administration are concerned about the fallout on Trump’s re-election campaign, this could turn out to be an absolutely brilliant move by the President to enable Republicans to take back the House and further dominate the Senate.
