Republican Senate Caves to Dems, Betrays Trump on Border Wall

In what may be the biggest showing of a backbone in political history, Senators Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Richard Shelby (R-AL) just betrayed our president.

Rather than fight for border wall funding, Shelby stripped it from immigration legislation and just gave Democrats everything they wanted without addressing border wall funding at all.

In the process, he took what may have been our largest bargaining chip off our stack and handed Democrats a major victory over this administration.

Cold Heart

I will be the first to tell you I don’t like seeing those children getting drug across the desert.

I will be the first to tell you I don’t like seeing women and children stuffed into trailers.

However, I will also tell you those particular events are exactly why we need to get the wall built.

The wall is more than a campaign pledge by Trump… it is a true deterrent that will help stop some of these massive caravans and truckloads of individuals trying to get across our border.

Honestly, I simply cannot imagine any type of border wall funding going through at this point because Shelby and company just served up everything Dems wanted without getting anything in return and McConnell has agreed to put in on the floor for a vote.

The Border Legislation

Shelby, whose Senate Appropriations Committee penned the legislation, removed the border wall funding from the new legislation that will now call for $4.6 billion to mostly address the humanitarian issues at the border.

The legislation calls for $2.9 billion to care for unaccompanied minors, $1.3 billion to care for adult asylum seekers and migrants, and $1.1 billion to Customs and Border Protection to “improve conditions at border entry points” as well as “transportation, medical care, and items like clothing, baby formula, and other essential items.”

Additionally, there is $65 million tagged to bring in more immigration judges to process the claims quicker as well as educational tools for migrants on how our legal process works on immigration.

Taken out of the legislation were provisions for more detention beds and they added a provision to block money that could be diverted from other areas to go to border wall funding.

This was done because Democrats were torpedoing the legislation with extreme riders to protect illegals… and it worked.

On the legislation, Shelby stated, “Let’s stay with the humanitarian aid.

“Let’ keep the poison pills out.”

This legislation is being touted as a good thing when, in fact, it is a complete and utter disaster.

Once again, Republicans in office have simply ignored their base and Trump supporters and are showing no backbone at all on this issue.

While Trump could veto the legislation, he won’t because it would be a PR nightmare in the middle of a campaign.

But, make no mistake about it, the moment his signature goes on this legislation, he loses the fight for border wall funding and hands Democrats virtually everything they have been asking for.

There is only one chip left to play on the table right now, and that is DACA amnesty in exchange for the funding.

That, however, is an issue that may cost Trump just as much support as he will gain and he will have both McConnell and Shelby to thank for it.
