Senator Graham Proposals Bill to End Asylum Claims at Border

The pictures unveiled by CNN on Tuesday have created an uproar among the way immigrants are being housed at border stations.

Senator Graham (R-S.C.), on Wednesday, unveiled a new bill that will address the issue by no longer allowing asylum claims to be made at the border by anyone from Central America.

The Humanitarian Disaster

One of the major concerns over immigration is the human trafficking aspect of it.

Smugglers are bringing in children with them knowing full well their chances of being deported are minimalized when a family is involved.

Graham stated, “The word is out on the street in Central America if you bring a minor child with you, your chance of being deported goes to almost zero, your hearing date is years away, and we release you insider the country and that’s the goal of coming.”

If this bill is passed, Graham stated, “This is a nightmare for smugglers.

“This is a godsend to stop the humanitarian disaster.”

What Graham is proposing is not a radical change from legislation that is already on the books.

This new legislation would put Central America on the same page as immigrants from both Mexico and Canada.

Additional Measures

The bill being proposed by Graham addresses several other problems with the border crisis as well.

The new legislation, if passed, would allow families to be held for 100 days rather than the 20 that is currently in place.

Additionally, he is asking for 500 additional immigration judges to be immediately added to help with the backlog of cases.

Graham put his proposal forth after seeing that more than 100,000 illegals were apprehended at the border in the month of April.

Things have gotten so bad, in fact, the Transportation Security Administration is now diverting hundreds of staff to the southern border to assist border agents.

This legislation is beyond fair and reasonable and should be a bipartisan effort.

At the very least, Democrats need to get involved in a debate with Republicans to address this issue.

If they shoot Graham’s bill down without so much as a meaningful discussion, it is proof positive they have no plans whatsoever to address the crisis at our border and will continue to use these illegals as pawns in their quest to regain power in this country.
