Democrats are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to gather enough votes to beat Trump in 2020.
After Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) agreed that violent criminals and terrorists like convicted Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should be able to vote from prison, Trump’s campaign ripped the presidential candidate.
Deeply Offensive
The issue of allowing felons to vote in prison has all of a sudden become a political hot potato.
Sanders made matters worse when he defended these criminals and their supposed right to vote.
His comments, needless to say, did not sit well with conservatives.
The Trump campaign stated, “The extremity and radicalism of the 2020 Democrats know no bounds.
“Giving imprisoned terrorists, sex offenders, and murderers the right to vote is an outrageous proposal that is deeply offensive to innocent victims across this country, some of whom lost their lives and are forever disenfranchises by the very killers that 2020 Democrats seek to empower.”
Sanders has defended his comments, stating, “I think the right to vote is inherent to our democracy.
“Yes, even for terrible people.”
First and foremost, Mr. Sanders, as a United States Senator, you should know we are NOT a democracy but rather a democratic republic.
But, I guess when you are trying to turn a country whose founders shed blood to get away from the grip of the Crown into a socialist haven, little details like that do not really matter.
The Showdown
The more this election cycle progresses, the more it looks like Senator Sanders is going to come out of the fray to face off against Donald Trump.
The younger generation of Democrats have embraced his “everything is free” rhetoric and have put Sanders way ahead of the Democrat pack in terms of fundraising.
If that ends up being the case, the election will be an epic battle of Americans that want to remain free and rid of government overreach and those that want the government to do everything for them.
We can only hope that both patriotism and common sense will win out and send Sanders packing much in the same way Hillary was embarrassed in 2016.
